Welcome to the Vydunas Youth Fund website!
We are honored to announce that Gražina Liautaud has created three $10,000 scholarships in rememberance of her late husband, James (Big Jim) Liautaud, who passed away late last year. These scholarships will be awarded to three students of lithuanian descent, admitted to or enrolled in an accredited, major state of Illinois business school, seeking a bachelors, masters or doctoral business degree. These first three scholarships will be presented by the Vydūnas Youth Fund in June or July of 2016. Further information about James Liautaud (including the criteria for these scholarships) and application forms can be found here. Applications must be returned to the Vydunas Youth Fund office by the June 15, 2016 deadline to be considered.
The Vydūnas Youth Fund expresses its condolences to Vytautas and Dalia Januškis and to the entire Januškis family on the passing of Vytautas‘ mother, Janina Januškis. We also thank the family for designating that memorial donations be given to the Fund. Thank you to all of Janina‘s relatives, friends, and others, who have sent donations totalling more than $600 to the Fund. Her late husband‘s, Vytautas S. Januškis (who passed away in 2013) memorial donations were also given to the Vydūnas Youth Fund.
The Vydunas Youth Fund provides more than 100 scholarships each year to lithuanian students and academic scouts in Lithuania, the United States, Europe, Canada, and Australia. Part of these scholarships were established by the Fund‘s Executive Committee. The rest were created by generous donors, who established scholarship funds within the Vydunas Youth Fund and designated specific amounts be given as scholarships to students in various disciplines and specific universities. There are also several scholarships that are given to students, who are members of the Lithuanian Scouts Assn. Gražina Musteikis, Leonas Maskaliūnas, prof. Birutė Ciplijauskas, prof. Romualdas Viskanta, Stasė and Vaclovas Tallat-Kelpša scholarships support the higher education endeavors of our young students and encourage them to become creative and meaningful members of society.
We encourage our donors, who have the financial means...especially those who wish to memorialize family members who have passed away... to join these individuals and to create scholarship funds within the Vydunas Youth Fund. More information can be found in our „Scholarship creation guidelines.“
This month we have added an icon and a link to the Arizona lithuanian community’s website lithaz.org , which contains current events, information and links to many U.S. and world lithuanian organizations and communities. The Vydūnas Youth Fund is among these linked organizations.
The 2015 $10,000 Gražina Musteikytė scholarship was awarded to Chicago‘s Lituanicos Tuntas young leader Mantas Naris. We congratulate Mantas and wish him good luck and perseverance in the completion of his studies. We want to see him return to „active duty“ organizing scout meetings and running camp programs. The 2016 Gražina Musteikis scholarship application form and instuctions are now available. Also available are the 2016 Ada Sutkuvienė and father Jonas Kubilius S.J. (both Distinguished Members – garbės nariai – of the Academic Scouts Assn) scholarship awards. There are 22 $1,000 scholarships available to registered members of the Lithuanian Scouts Assn. Information about these scholarships, and application forms, can be found by clicking on these links or by going to the Scholarships tab above. As in previous years, those scholarship applicants, who apply for the Gražina Musteikis award, will automatically be considered for the $1,000 scholarships if they do not receive the Musteikis award. No need to send separate applications. All applications, and required additional documents, must be received in the Vydunas Youth Fund office by July 15. 2016 in order to be considered.
Academic Scout Organization students in Lithuania can apply for the Vydunas Youth Fund scholarships, which are given exclusively to members of their organization, by completing this application form and presenting it to dr. Jolita Kašalynienė, Phd, the Vydunas Youth Fund‘s representative in Lithuania. These scholarships are available for both the Spring and the Fall semesters. All 2016 applicants are eligible for both the Spring and Fall semester awards.
Since September, we now provide the capability to our donors of making donations using PayPal or a credit card. Click on the „DONATE“ button in the upper right-hand side of this web page and follow the instructions. This link will permit you to make one-time donations or pledge monthly donations to the Fund. We appreciate every donation – small or large – which helps us support the many educational projects and scholarships, which are the essence of our mission.
We congratulate the 2016 Vydunas Youth Fund Easter Card art and photo contest winners – Diana Kizlauskas, Ramūne Matulevičius, Vaida Naris, Kristina Sherpitys, and Vaiva Rimeikis. Their award-winning creations are being sold at the Chicago Lithuanian Scouts' Kaziuko Muge bazaar March 6th at the Lemont Lithuanian World Center.
The Vydunas Youth Fund Executive Committee has formal meetings six times throughout the year, and informal meetings as needed. The meeting agendas include scholarship award discussions, evaluations of project support requests, as well as various other administrative issues. The Fund‘s office is located at the Lithuanian World Center in Lemont, Illinois. Here are several pictures of the Fund‘s office and museum of Vydunas memorabilia.
In September, we received several copies of „Skautiškos tarnystės kelyje,“ a book published in Lithuania with the financial support of the Vydunas Youth Fund. It contains topics presented and discussed during an October 26, 2013 conference of lithuanian rover scouts and senior guides in Šiauliai, Lithuania. A brief selection of the book‘s topics is presented in this PDF link for your perusal.
