The Vydunas Youth Fund provides more than 100 scholarships each year to lithuanian students and academic scouts in Lithuania, the United States, Europe, Canada, and Australia. Part of these scholarships were established by the Fund‘s Executive Committee. The rest were created by generous donors, who established scholarship funds within the Vydunas Youth Fund and designated specific amounts be given as scholarships to students in various disciplines and specific universities. There are also several scholarships that are given to students, who are members of the Lithuanian Scouts Assn. Gražina Musteikis, Leonas Maskaliūnas, prof. Birutė Ciplijauskas, prof. Romualdas Viskanta, Stasė and Vaclovas Tallat-Kelpša scholarships support the higher education endeavors of our young students and encourage them to become creative and meaningful members of society.
We encourage our donors, who have the financial means...especially those who wish to memorialize family members who have passed away... to join these individuals and to create scholarship funds within the Vydunas Youth Fund. More information can be found in our „Scholarship creation guidelines.“
This month we have added an icon and a link to the Arizona lithuanian community’s website lithaz.org , which contains current events, information and links to many U.S. and world lithuanian organizations and communities. The Vydūnas Youth Fund is among these linked organizations.
This past October, the Los Angeles academic scout chapter invited the Fund‘s president, Gintaras Plačas, to present an overview of the Fund‘s purpose, evolution and its many charitable activities. More than 100 LA chapter members attended this annual event, which marks the anniversary of the creation of the Academic Scouts organization in October of 1923 in Lithuania. Other honored guests included the new Consul General of Lithuania, Darius Gaidys, and the St. Casimer Lithuanian parish pastor, rev. Tomas Karanauskas. After a delicious brunch and the Vydunas Youth Fund presentation, the members celebrated the 85th birthday of Vytautas Šliupas and the 99th birthday of Lionė Vilimiene – two long-time members of the LA chapter. The enjoyable event ended with everyone singing lithuanian scout songs and an impressive selection of songs by soloist Kriste Jogaitė, the LA chapter‘s newest member. Here are several event photographs, taken by Albinas Sekas.
The Executive Committee congratulates our Fund’s Secretary, Vida Brazaitis, board member, Ramune Papartis, as well as Vilija Paulius and Ramona Žemaitis.
